Amazon Goes to Chengdu Hi-tech Zone With Cloud Computing
Amazon and Chengdu Hi-tech Zone will build a cloud computing industry innovation center
Chengdu Hi-tech Zone has kicked off its innovation center project on cloud computing in a partnership with Amazon Web Services (Beijing) Co. Ltd. in China this week.
The China Chengdu-Amazon AWS Joint Innovation Center will focus on artificial intelligence, biological medicine and financial technology, and will establish an accelerator and incubator, as well as an international makerspace, according to an official announcement. Located in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, the center will attract enterprises, startups and industrial entrepreneurs worldwide to work in the cloud computing service areas.
Amazon, a Seattle-based technology giant, said it will provide AWS cloud services including cloud computing, Internet of Things and big data for the enterprises to accelerate innovation. Amazon launched its cloud computing services, and began developments in AI, virtual reality and augmented reality, in 2006.
Chengdu Hi-tech Zone has ranked among the top three technology parks in China, together with Zhongguancun Technology Park in Beijing, and Zhang Jiang Hi-tech Park in Shanghai, as reported by Sichuan News. In 2018, the Zone generated approximately $27 billion in GDP, according to the official statement.
Chengdu has provided funding of $10 million to 420 companies in the zone this year and plans to invest about $30 million to accelerate its development. "The joint innovation center will incubate 500 domestic and overseas start-ups. By far, we have completed the upgrade of 120 enterprises, including 20-30 gazelle enterprises and 2-3 unicorn or quasi-unicorn companies," an officer from Chengdu Hi-tech Zone said, according to its official website.
