iQiyi and JD.com To Link Paid Membership Programs

Baidu's video-streaming unit iQiyi Inc. (Nasdaq: IQ) announced today that the company has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with JD.com, China's second largest e-commerce firm, in which the two companies will link membership programs in order to provide cross-platform services to members.

According to the agreement, members who purchase one-year memberships for either iQIYI or JD.com will be able to enjoy the service and benefits of both platforms.

IQiyi's VIP paid membership program, similar to Netflix' membership program, includes early access to dramatic series aired exclusively on iQiyi platform, access to over 10,000 films as well as popular foreign films. JD's paid program, similar to Amazon Prime, provides free delivery service, exclusive customer service, special discounts for selected products, and other exclusive benefits.

IQiyi's subscription service business has developed rapidly over the last two years with 60.1 million subscribing members as of Feb. 28, 2018, the company said.

JD.com with more than 220 million active users in China, launched premium membership service called JD Plus in 2015. Compared to Amazon Prime which provides not only free delivery but also video, music streaming, and cloud services, JD Plus was previously only focussing on enhancing the shopping experience.

Now, with the help of iQiyi, JD's members now could enjoy exclusive TV and movie streaming too, along with the free shipping.
